Mark 4;26-29 "Jesus also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself, the soil produces grain...first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."
I have gone through seasons of questioning why I wasn't seeing spiritual growth in my life. Ever been there? Ever felt like you've been "stuck" for a while? This verse is such a powerful verse! And it's such an encouragement when we have given in to the "feeling" that we're going nowhere.
This parable is very revealing. It shows us that spiritual growth is a continual thing. It's a process that is accomplished over time, and ends In a beautiful harvest of growth, freedom, and newfound trust. This verse carries a promise to each of us who are seeking The Lord, who are scattering the seed of His word on the ground of our hearts. It promises that the seed will sprout. It will grow..even though we may not see it happening.
There is a big difference between fact and truth. The fact may be that you aren't "feeling" like you're going anywhere..but the truth is that you are. The truth is that when you are feeding the ground of your heart with the seed...the Word of God (the Gospel of Christ)...when the seed is being nourished by the soil..and by the sun..or should I say Son....that seed does sprout and grow, it does bring life...whether you see it happening or not.
I had a vegetable garden many years ago. I planted seeds in the soil, and watered them daily. And daily I would watch for any sign of life to begin to peek up through the soil. It took a long time. It was a process. What I didn't know at the time was that the seed actually was growing..underneath the surface where I couldn't yet see it!
Seed has transforming power. It takes the land that was once barren, and produces a fruitful field from it. There is a beautiful growth happening in the soil of your heart, beloved. Nurture it. Protect it! Wait for it! There is a harvest coming!
