Mark 6:41 " And when He had taken the five loaves and two fishes, He looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them."
This tiny little passage speaks volumes to me. Jesus, as He was preparing to feed more than 5000 people, was faced with only having two small fish, and five loaves of bread. From what I understand, a loaf at that time was not like a loaf that we might see today in the grocery store. It didn't come sliced, and ready to feed a large crowd. It was usually a small, almost bite-sized piece of bread, meant for one person. I've often wondered what passed through the mind of Jesus as He "looked up to heaven" before blessing and breaking the bread.
That phrase "looked up to heaven" is really telling. We might picture the Savior simply looking upwards, giving thanks, and then breaking the bread. But when you look up the meaning of the phrase, it actually means that He looked up...and recovered sight. Jesus could have looked to the limited resource of the bread and the fish...but instead He looked to God....and His unlimited resources!
According to Webster, the word "recovered" means to regain strength, or to retrieve or rescue something. What Jesus recovered was His ability to see into the provision of God, the ability to trust that with God, all things are possible, and the confidence to firmly believe and stand in those truths. He looked up to God. He was no longer looking at the limited resources He held in His hands. He was looking at God's inexhaustible and limitless provision.
I don't know what you may be looking at in the natural right now, that may seem limited in some way. But I know that Just as Jesus did, we can pause, and look up to heaven...look up and regain our spiritual eyesight and vision...and we will see that for us, just as for The Lord, God's provision is perfect...and it is even greater than we might think.
