Genesis 33:14 " I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the cattle before me, and the children, as they are able to endure."
Jacob had taken this same journey years before, and so he knew how difficult it might be. He also knew how long it would take and how extreme the heat might be. He wouldn't allow the children, or even the cattle to be driven too hard..not even for a day. He knew that they might not be able to endure as well to any harsh conditions as a grown man. He was concerned for the welfare of each and every traveler....and so he stated that he would lead slowly, in order to not push anyone beyond what they could handle.
When I think of those children, I am reminded that with all of us as well...we have not been this way before. The road we are traveling is unknown to us...but not to Jesus. He knows every turn in the road. He knows how steep our path might get. He understands the rocky climb that we may be facing. He knows the depth of the river that we may need to cross.
"He knows how we are formed" Psalm 103 states...and he understands our strengths and weaknesses...He knows our down sitting and our uprising. He knows the road we travel, and He is acquainted with all of our ways...As He leads, He is gentle. He is never a cruel taskmaster. He remembers each step of the path that we are on, and He never pushes or forces us in any way to step beyond what we are able to endure. As we walk and follow Him, we walk in the strength that is our inheritance, and the confidence that He will never or sake us. What a precious and glorious Shepherd...Guide...Savior!
