John 10:7 and 11 "then said Jesus unto them again 'Verily, verily I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep'". Vs 11. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep"
Sheep were often gathered into a sheepfold to protect them from the elements..such as thieves, wild animals, weather, etc. The sheepfolds were often in caves, sheds, or open areas surrounded by walls made of stone or branches. The shepherd generally slept at the opening of the sheepfold, and he actually became the door...the way in for anyone wishing to enter!
Jesus said, "no one comes to the Father but by Me". He is not only the door to the Father...He is the door to the sheepfold...and we...you and I...are the sheep that He cares deeply for.
A hired man would tend the sheep for money..a salary. Jesus does it out of love! He has bought the sheep and owns them. He is committed to them. He isn't merely doing a job. He has laid down His life for the sheep! Just as a shepherd protects his flock, Jesus protects us...and nothing can pluck us out of His hand! He came to give us life...in abundance! He knows those who are His. He knows the sheep by name. He knows what you may be dealing with and everything about you...and He calls you His own. He leads you...and when you stumble, He carries you. He goes before you, and you follow Him because you have become familiar with, and know His voice.
Today, you can rest in Him. You can stand firm in the fact that you are being cared for...by the Good Shepherd.
