The Greek word for disciple is mathēteuō, which means, intransitively, to become a pupil; transitively, to disciple, instruct, teach. Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father concerning his Disciples saying, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” (John 17:17) When we get born again, the Spirit of God joins together with our Spirit making it perfect! But our souls are not yet perfect. When we commit ourselves to hearing and reading the word of God, the Holy Spirit now gives life to these words in our hearts and causes us to become completely transformed into the very image and likeness of both the Father and the Son. And so we grow and mature to a place where we can then be qualified to teach the word of God, thus making others disciples in the body of Christ!
